- Teacher-provided encyclopedia and/or other research material
- Review content covered to this point in the unit.
- Instruct students to divide into groups of 3 or 4. Assign each group one of the following topics to research in class, using their textbooks and available research materials, and prepare a 3-minute class presentation that will cover the topic:
• First triumvirate
• Julius Caesar
• Marc Anthony
• A description of imperial authority and the military in the Roman Empire
• Failure to provide for a peaceful succession of emperors
• Pax Romana (define)
– Augustus Caesar
– Economic impact (include uniform system of money, travel and trade conditions, Roman roads, promotion of stability)
– Social impact (include stability of social classes, increased emphasis on family)
– Political impact (include civil service, development of a uniform rule of law)
NOTE: Web sites may be of assistance to students.
- Instruct students to include in their presentation one or two notes for the class. Explain that students may use maps, pictures, charts, timelines, a play, and other formats to relay their information.
