- Begin by having students consider the following question:
• How have styles in clothing and music changed over your lifetime?
Relate the students’ experiences with change to the changes that occurred between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
- Have students divide into pairs to complete the “Comparison of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance” chart (Attachment A). They may use their textbooks for this exercise.
- Discuss the chart with the students, emphasizing the increasing role of secularism and humanism. Show students examples of artwork to illustrate the differences between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
