- Review the content from the previous session.
- Divide students into groups of three or four, and have the groups research/read information on the European Union (EU). Have them label a map to reflect the countries that have joined the European Union and prepare a report on
• the history of the European Union
• the expansion of the European Union
• a comparison of the European Union and the North American Free Trade Agreement in terms of total population, number of member nations, combined GDP, etc.
• the euro (countries using the common currency, why some do not, advantages, etc.)the economic impact of the European Union among member and non-member nations
- Have the groups present their report to the class.
- Conduct a discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of adding new members to the European Union.
- Assign a teacher-selected reading, worksheet, or other reinforcement activity, using available teacher resources.
