Additional Activities
  • Read and discuss teacher-selected nonfiction books on ancient Greece.

  • Discuss the forms of government in Greece (direct democracy) and Rome (republican form of government or representative democracy). Use a Venn Diagram to compare.

  • Make models of the Colosseum, Parthenon, and/or aqueducts from clay, paper maché, or cardboard.

  • Create a mosaic picture with tiles or paper squares.

  • On a chart, compare and contrast the physical and human characteristics of ancient Greece and Rome.

  • Write postcards or travel brochures about what it was like growing up in ancient Greece.

  • Create posters advertising the events held at the ancient Olympics and modern day Olympics.

  • Provide students with a Venn Diagram using three interlocking circles, and have them show similarities in professions between ancient Greece and Rome. Students may use pictures to represent each occupation.
